A marine biologist at Monterey Bay Aquarium, which ran the project on a young great white that had been held captive for four months, described the swim as 'impressive'.
The satellite-transmitting tag automatically separated from the shark after 90 days and bobbed to the surface, to signal where the creature had ended up. It also showed that it had dived as deep as 300m.
