According to America’s Orange County press, 29-year-old John Sung Park was apprehended at a casino.
Park was sought by police in connection with his disappearance last September off Laguna Beach, which was viewed as a fraud. However, the arrest was made by Nevada Gaming Board Police in connection with Park’s cheating at a table at MGM Grand Casino. Only then did police realise who he was.
Following Park’s disappearance off Laguna while diving with some friends, a number of events gave him away, including clear evidence that he had gone to Los Angeles County to take back by force a car from a woman to whom he had sold it.
Police believed that the disappearance was engineered to evade warrants for Park’s arrest in connection with crimes including drugs possession, burglary and handling other stolen goods.
Park now faces charges in connection with those crimes, the faked disappearance and for cheating at the casino. He may even face an action from Laguna rescue authorities, whose search for the diver was reported to have cost some $50,000 in boats, helicopters and professional diving search teams.
