Diver missing after sinking

The 62-year-old American man was aboard the 21m sailing yacht Sampai Jumpa, which was sunk while on passage at about 4am on 24 May, when it was hit by a larger vessel that failed to stop.

The American was the only passenger aboard the yacht, and had been planning to dive in Kuantan waters. The four crew managed to escape and were rescued by a fishing boat. Two were hospitalised with severe injuries.

Searches continue for the missing man. The Sampai Jumpa's owner and operator, Worldwide Dive and Sail, has told Divernet that it is investigating with the Malaysian authorities.

The company is hopeful that the other vessel involved will be successfully identified and its operator charged.
