Fire strikes liveaboard

The vessel undertakes popular Sudanese Red Sea charters from Port Sudan, but had travelled back north to Sharm el Sheikh for maintenance where, on 15 June, a fire broke out.

The steel-hulled vessel suffered extensive internal damage.

It has been reported that nobody was on board at the time. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

Fully air-conditioned, Royal Emperor accommodates 16 guests in twin cabins. She was built in 1998 and has been owned since 2005 by the Egyptian company Tornado Marine.

Among Tornado Marine’s liveaboards fleet, Cyclone, Hurricane and Whirlwind have all won Liveaboard of the Year in the annual Diver Awards, run by Diver magazine.
