Yorkshire divers perish

The pair, believed to be from the Scarborough area, were reported to be wreck-diving in a group of four on Monday, 3 August from a 6m vessel, On A Promise.

The casualties were airlifted by an RAF SAR helicopter and flown to Hull Royal Infirmary, where they were pronounced dead. According to one report, both of the divers had passed away even before their recovery aboard the dive boat.

The team were reported to be experienced members of Filey Sub-Aqua Club, and diving in an area popular but challenging, with its strong currents and 40-50m depths.

An investigation has been launched by North Yorkshire Police.
