Basildon’s Action Underwater Studios will host the event, the Essex Diving Festival organised by the town’s Ocean Optics & Mavericks Diving, on 5 September.
Divers will be able to try out stills and video cameras under water, the studio having been fitted with sets to provide subject matter.
Running alongside the underwater activities will be photography lessons and workshops with Ocean Optics and Light & Motion UK.
Mavericks will run buoyancy-control practice sessions for any divers who initially find it difficult to maintain their position in the water while handling photographic equipment.
Participation costs £45 per head. Pre-booking is required as places are limited.
A week later, on 12 September, Ocean Optics & Mavericks Diving will also be running a one-day marine biology course at Action Underwater Studios.
Marine ecologist and fisheries biologist Jamie Watts will be aiming to “inform, to build an understanding of the living marine environment, and to inspire an ongoing fascination with, and understanding of the world we dive in”.
Subjects will include reefs, critters, plankton and its role in supporting higher life forms, fish, sharks and rays, mammals, how divers can best interact with marine life to minimise disturbance, and the large-scale ecological impacts of diving travel and taking food from the sea.
