Plymouth College of Art has teamed up with the city’s National Marine Aquarium to stage the display next Thursday, 10 December.
Visitors are welcome to come and watch the freediving dancers in the NMA’s ROV tank, whether or not they are thinking of taking up the college’s new BA in Underwater and Surface Based Imaging.
But for those who might want to consider underwater creative photography training, the course is a level-three, one-year top-up programme, starting in September 2010.
Present at the NMA launch, which runs from 2.30-5.00pm, will be professional underwater photographer Dan Burton, well known to readers of Divernet and Diver Magazine.
Burton, along with the course’s programme leader Dave Kinney and others working in the water-based sector, will be on the dry side of the tank in order to talk with visitors about the world of creative underwater photography.
“I’m hoping the launch will resonate with water lovers everywhere as we’re looking for enthusiastic, committed people with a passion for creative image making - be it natural history, extreme sports, marine biology or fine art practice,” says Kinney.
At the course launch there will, needless to say, be a fair few cameras present to capture the underwater dancers’ moves, from outside the tank.
At 4 December some 120 people had registered to attend the launch, among them being established photography students thinking of moving under water.
Any divers who apply will at least have a head start in having gained scuba skills!
