What value Bite-Back? You decide
22 January 2010
Buyers are being invited to pay whatever they like for conservation group Bite-Back's 2010 calendar.
The calendar, which had cost £7.99 plus p&p, includes award-winning photographers Jeff Rotman, Doug Perrine, Alex Mustard, David Doubilet, Brian Skerry, Amos Nachoum and Michael Aw.
Now, says Campaign Director Graham Buckingham, there is "a handful of calendars left that we want to go to good homes".
He adds: "Of course while this is a chance to grab a January bargain, we're also asking supporters to remember that Bite-Back needs urgent funds to run its impressive campaigns."
Bite-Back aims to protecting vulnerable marine creatures, particularly big-predator species such as sharks, swordfish and marlin which are targeted relentlessly by the world's fisheries.
It has succeeded in persuading restaurants and shops, including several top supermarket chains, to withdraw products derived from these creatures, or sell versions caught by sustainable means.
High-profile companies and individuals to have responded include ASDA, Sainsbury's, Somerfield, Tesco, Waitrose, Holland & Barratt, Wagamama and chef Rick Stein.
