Fire destroys Egyptian charter boats
2 February 2010
At least two Red Sea liveaboards have been destroyed and others damaged by fire, while laid up for maintenance.
It has been reported that Typhoon and VIP-One were damaged beyond repair when the fire broke out on 30 January, as the boats lay in a dry dock in Suez.
Other vessels damaged are reported to have been Hyatt and Sweet Dream.
It is thought that the fire may have started aboard Typhoon, which was burned out. However, the possibility that it started elsewhere in the dock has not been ruled out.
The fire reportedly continued for some time, windy conditions making it difficult for firemen to bring it under control.
