Easter Day death

According to early reports the diver, aged 57, was with a group out on the water near Beadnall yesterday when he collapsed unconscious on the boat.

It is not yet clear whether the incident occurred before or after diving.

The group alerted Seahouses RNLI and the casualty, believed to be from West Yorkshire, was taken ashore by lifeboat.

He was transferred by the helicopter from RAF Boulmer to hospital, where it was confirmed that he had died.

Northumbria Police is investigating the incident, pending a coroner's inquest.
