The CDWS is campaigning with two other groups, the Hurghada Environmental Protection and Conservation Association (HEPCA) and the South Sinai Association for Diving & Marine Activities (SSDM), to improve Egyptian law governing fishing.
“One of the biggest environmental problems is clearly identified as illegal fishing, particularly in marine zones, which are supposed to be protected,” said Hesham Gabr, Chairman of the CDWS.
“We need to keep this issue at the forefront of the Government’s mind, which is why we have set up this campaign.”
Information on restricted areas or no-take zones is available from dives centres or boat operators on arrival in the country.
Protected areas include, for instance, marine parks at Ras Mohammed in the north and around Abu Dabab in the south.
The CDWS asks that photos of any suspected illegal fishing activity be emailed with date, time, name of boat, location and any other useful information to fishing@cdws.travel
Contributors can also log on to Facebook and look up the page Capture the Catcher, where photos will be uploaded and viewers can log their support for the campaign.
