Treasure hunt at Stoney

7 July 2010

Leicestershire’s popular Stoney Cove dive site is hosting a charity fundraising treasure hunt this summer, with some seriously good prizes set to be won.

For six weeks, from 17 July to 29 August, visiting divers will be invited to try to find one or more of a series of coins placed in the lake.

Then, for a £5 donation per recovered coin, names will be put into the hat for a prize draw to be held at Stoney on 30 August.

Key sponsors are Leicester’s George Tarratt jewellers and Omega watches, the top draw prize being an Omega Planet Ocean watch or a ladies’ Omega equivalent.

Other prizes include:

Vyper Air dive computer, from Suunto;
Atomic regulator from Typhoon;
TechOx analyser from Vandagraph;
Travel Light BCD, from Cressi-Sub;
Abyss Ice Extreme regulator and octopus, from Mares;
Arctic & Ozone undersuits, from Fourth Element;
SF15 fins, mask and snorkel set, from Tusa.

The prizes on offer total some £10,000 in value.

All proceeds from the event are to be split equally between LOROS, Prostaid, RNLI and Air Ambulance.

Divers get to know one of Stoney's aquatic residents. From 17 July, they should keep eyes peeled for treasure hunt coins, too.
