An emergency call was put out yesterday, 6 August at 12.30pm by a diving vessel when it was realised that the diver had not appeared as planned.
A large search was launched, involving the Tobermory RNLI Lifeboat, Prestwick’s RN SAR helicopter, three dive boats, a fish farm workboat, assorted pleasure craft and a passenger ferry.
Coastguard shore search teams from Kilchoan, Salen and Loch Aline were activated and, just half an hour after the emergency call had gone out, divers were able to descend to begin seabed searches.
At around 4.30pm, after three-and-a-half hours of underwater operations, the divers located and recovered the female diver’s body from the seabed.
Northern Constabulary has confirmed that a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
