The conference uses university lecture facilities and features an eclectic mix of archaeological projects recounted by six presenters.
There is an exhibitors’ area to tour during breaks.
A Friday evening pub meet is being held near Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard and, for those who stay on after the conference on Saturday, beer and skittles are on offer at the town’s Royal Maritime Club.
A tour of the Royal Armouries, at Fort Nelson outside Portsmouth, is available for Sunday.

The NAS 25 Year Anniversary Scholarship celebrates a quarter century of NAS Training, through which the NAS has imparted high levels of technique in diving survey, excavation, reporting and conservation.
The winning candidate is being offered free archaeological training for the whole of next year.
The trainee will have the opportunity to train to all three NAS Training levels, participating in varied training and field projects.
He or she will also be invited to join the NAS Sub-Aqua Club and dive on the protected Holland V and Norman’s Bay sites.
Other benefits include free entry into the NAS annual conference and a year’s free NAS IJNA online membership.
The total value of the scholarship has been calculated at about £1500. The trainee will need to meet the costs of travel, accommodation and food.
