Lone diver dies

Malta’s The Times has reported that Dennis O’Hare, 57, was diving alone on the wreck of the patrol boat P29.

He was known to have dived at about 1pm to take photographs of the wreck.

O’Hare, described as “a very experienced diver”, was spotted floating motionless at the surface at about 2.15pm, some 50m from Cirkewwa breakwater.

The fishermen involved realised that he was not breathing and reported their find.

His body was brought ashore by two divers from the Civil Protection Department.

P29 was sunk in 33m of water in 2007 as an artificial reef and diving attraction. It is a popular dive site, along with the nearby tugboat Rozi and Cirkewwa Arch.
