The event, held on 5 February at the University of Plymouth’s Robbins Conference Centre, is organised for anyone interested in wreck projects ranging from classic scuba archaeology to complex oceanic expeditions.
Divers invariably have the opportunity to meet a number of key players in their fields under relaxed, informal circumstances.
Speakers are:
Nikolaus von und zu Sandizell and Alejandro Mirabal - Shipwrecks in Indonesian territorial waters;
Ayse Devrim Atauz - Shipwrecks of the Deep Ocean;
Steven Schwankert - HMS Poseidon;
Pete Holt and Martin Davis - SHIPS Project and Wrecks of Plymouth;
Jack Ingle - HMS Repulse and Prince of Wales;
Ted Crosby - Project Highball;
Juan Campos - The loss of HMS Serpent;
Mark Dunkley - The Future of English Heritage.
Dunkley’s presentation is timely given the Government’s recent cuts in public expenditure.
Also on offer are a Saturday night restaurant get-together and a Sunday tour of Plymouth’s historic Mashford Boatyard and Battery.
Conference tickets cost £15, or £10 for students. Door purchase is possible but advance purchase is advised.
Purchasers need to send sheques, made out to IMASS, to Paul Dart at 137 Blachford Road, Ivybridge, Plymouth, Devon PL21 0AE.
