"From deco-planning to expedition management, TEK/2011 will cover a broad range of topics aimed at experienced technical divers," explains conference coordinator Max Eaton. "But it is not just for hard-core tekkies. There will also be sessions for those recently qualified and wanting to do more, as well as sessions designed to give newcomers an introduction to what is involved.
"Meanwhile, talks such as Vikki Batten's timely overview of PADI's forthcoming rebreather courses will highlight the fact that rebreather training will soon be introduced for all divers, from beginners upwards."
Heading up the programme at the conference, which runs alongside LIDS 2011 at ExCeL on the weekend of 26/27 March, will be John Garvin, who will speak about his cave-exploration programme in the Turks and Caicos islands, and how his many experiences there fed into the final screenplay of the movie "Sanctum".
Other subjects striking a particularly topical note at TEK/2011 will be Jason Mallinson's account of the logistics behind his team's record-breaking 8825m Pozo Azul cave penetration, and Paul Raymaeker's description of his 212m dive off Safaga with his rEvo rebreather.
The TEK/2011 programme differs on the Saturday and Sunday, but tickets can be bought for one day (£22.50) or for the full weekend (£40). Places are limited, so advance booking is strongly advised. The price includes entry to LIDS 2011 and a Delegate Shoulder-Bag.
TEK/2011 is a DIVER Group event in association with Apeks, Dive Life, Hollis (Oceanic), PADI RecTec, Scuba Travel and Suunto, and supported by Fourth Element, Body Glove and Tekstreme Diving.
