Speakers focusing on these issues at the conference, which takes place at ExCeL this weekend, include Mark Powell, Gareth Lock and Mark Ellyatt.
Author of the popular book "Deco For Divers", Mark Powell has become well known for his analyses of DCI incidents in order to get everyone diving more safely. At TEK/2011 Mark will be looking at the finer points of planning a technical dive to minimise the chances of DCI ever becoming a factor.
Meanwhile, reporting real-life incidents is the subject for GUE technical diver and coldwater deep-wreck photographer Gareth Lock. In a talk aimed at improving safety by identifying risk factors, Gareth will be looking at how incidents data can be better collected and analysed - and fed back to divers.
And, focusing on tackling underwater problems as well as preventing them, former world depth-record holder Mark Ellyatt will be presenting his Tek Survival Guide video, looking at which skills have to be mastered in order to deal with emergencies on both open-circuit and rebreathers.
Other key speakers at TEK/2011, which runs alongside LIDS 2011 on 26/27 March, include John Garvin, who will talk about his cave-exploration programme in the Turks and Caicos islands, and how his extensive experiences there fed into the final screenplay of the movie Sanctum.
Also of particular interest will be Jason Mallinson's account of the logistics behind his team's record-breaking Pozo Azul cave penetration, Vikki Batten's timely overview of PADI's ground-breaking rebreather courses, and Paul Raymaeker's description of his 212m dive off Safaga with his rEvo rebreather.
The TEK/2011 programme differs on the Saturday and Sunday, but tickets can be bought for one day (£22.50) or for the full weekend (£40). Places are limited, so advance booking is strongly advised. The price includes entry to LIDS 2011 and a Delegate Shoulder-Bag.
TEK/2011 is a DIVER Group event in association with Apeks, Dive Life, Hollis (Oceanic), PADI RecTec, Scuba Travel and Suunto, and supported by Fourth Element, Body Glove and Tekstreme Diving.
