Club receives grant for disabilities training

Evesham Sub-Aqua Club, a branch of the BSAC, has received £24,000 from the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Sports Partnership, a ten-strong conglomerate of local authorities and primary health care trusts.

It has been able to purchase 15 Mini B and 10 Micro B aqualungs, simple systems suitable for use by people with physical limitations, plus some equipment for use by the trainers.

The club has entered an agreement with Worcester’s Regency High School Sports College, which caters for children with disabilities, to train students as divers. It is also training some staff members as diving instructors.

Training is being carried out according to the BSAC’s syllabus for training those with disabilities.

The college’s facilities include a hydrotherapy pool which can be used by budding divers.
