No fishing off Ras Mohammed

The country’s Chamber of Diving and Watersports (CDWS) has stated that, following the annulment of the decree, fishermen who had already started operating off Ras Mohammed have departed from the area.

They are being compensated by the Ministry of Tourism and discussions will now be held in line with the Ministry’s stated aim of providing financial support for the retraining of Bedouin fishermen who can no longer make a living from the trade.

According to the Hurghada Environmental Protection and Conservation Association (HEPCA), the decree was reversed by the Governor of South Sinai, who had instigated it.

The Governor acted in response to a statement by the Minister of Tourism that he would be approving action to stop the fishing.
