Divers out in force to support chamber

Some 130 divers from 11 branches of the British Sub-Aqua Club headed for the south Cornish coast recently, to dive, socialise and support fundraising for Plymouth's Diving Diseases and Research Centre.

They were congregating as part of the annual Kernow Federation Dive Festival. Having dived sites such as Wolf Rock and the liberty ship JR Park in Mount's Bay, divers met at Penzance BSAC's quayside clubhouse to enjoy a Saturday night barbeque which, Kernow organiser Allen Murray told Divernet, was 'a major social event in the Cornish diving calendar'.
Participating clubs were mainly local, with seven from Cornwall, two from Devon and one from Somerset, though a Coventry club also took part. Money raised for the DDRC was expected to top £1000.
The Kernow Federation was formed among Cornish and a few Devon BSAC branches, to combine instructor resources and student numbers for diving and skills development courses. Its annual festival was launched in 2003, in the 50th anniversary year of the BSAC.
