The Deep goes deeper
|
The Deep aquarium in Hull has opened a new deep-sea exhibition, showing marine life you'll certainly never see as a scuba diver. The creatures displayed live beyond the reach of sunlight, at depths from 200m to 1000m.

In the low-lit tanks of The Deep's Twilight Zone, other-worldly oceanic beasties include giant Japanese spider crabs, giant Pacific octopus, wolf eels (pictured), nautilus, Norway lobster, spot prawns and jellyfish.
There's also a virtual coelacanth - the real thing, prehistoric in the extreme, is out there but very hard to find. An audio-visual theatre provides an introductory presentation on life at depth in the oceans.
The Twilight Zone was completed as part of a £6.8 million extension including a learning suite, cafĂ? and restaurant. The gift shop, reception and queuing arrangements have been improved.
The aquarium is situated on the shore of the Humber river, in Hull's city centre. The Deep - 01482 381000, www.thedeep.co.uk
