More Shipwrecks of the Battle of Jutland Jutland on DVD
With the review copy of this DVD arriving as I was packing to go ice-diving in Norway, I added More Shipwrecks of the Battle of Jutland to my camera bag and took it on the trip. Aesgeir from XO Holidays had his laptop with him, so one night after dinner we all gathered round to watch the DVD. Quite simply, More Shipwrecks of the Battle of Jutland is for divers who enjoyed Innes McCartney's 2001 production Shipwrecks of the Battle of Jutland but would like to see more of the wrecks and more of the diving. Especially the diving as, except for a few context-setting clips of charts and historical photographs, this DVD is all under water. As such, it doesn't stand alone. You need to have watched Shipwrecks of the Battle of Jutland first to get the most out of it. The original video gave the story of the battle and some of the wrecks, and the companion fills in with more of them. As seems to be common with burned DVDs, the disk initially skipped and refused to play beyond halfway. My gathered review team liked the quality of underwater video work and the commentary, but thought there were a few spaces of sucky-blowy diver noises that could have been covered with more descriptive commentary. Those not heavily into wreck diving would have liked an overview of where they were on the wrecks. Back home, the DVD played all the way through on my player, sticking only on the credits at the end. I enjoyed it. My ice-diver review team missed the best half. John Liddiard
