What a wonderful book this is! Oh, have I given my verdict away too soon?
This book is written by Anita Sherwood.
You may remember that her painstakingly assembled DVD British Sea Life went down very well in these review pages a year or two back.
Her book comes in handy A5 size and is beautifully produced in full colour. It's enough to make you want to go diving!
It's concise. It's full of pertinent information, and each site has a map and a surface photograph, so there's no mistaking where you should be.
It tells you the relevant depth, and how easy or difficult access to sites might be. There are telephone numbers for places to have lunch, to stay overnight or to call in case
of an emergency.
The book gives directions for how to get to your target site, a map grid reference and
the nearest postcode for your car's satnav.
It tells you the nearest source of compressed gas. It mentions currents and likely hazards.
It tells you everything you need to know, along with a brief commentary that points to why pyou might want to dive at any particular place.
And then there are the UK shore dives themselves. You'll be keen to do them, and the marine-life identification guide is useful too.
