THE DIVER Awards at 20

Appeared in DIVER December 2017
Yes, it's been 20 years since the first DIVER Awards were given out at BAFTA in London. Little did we know back in the last century quite how prestigious these annual accolades for the cream of the diving trade were to become.
Recipients of DIVER Awards appreciate that the trophies confer a distinct advantage when carrying on their businesses.
We calculated back in 1997, and still reckon today, that this is very much in divers' interests. Extra incentives for suppliers to maintain the highest standards in their products and services can only keep us happier and safer.
And it's all down to you, the readers who take the time to cast your votes and help us to recognise the people who have made our diving special over the previous 12 months.
If it seems like only the other day that you were reading about the winners of the 2016 Awards, that's because this time round we shortened the lead-time.
This allowed our new-look trophies to be presented, for the first time, at DIVE 2017, October's Dive Show at the NEC, which is organised by DIVER Group.
With so many winners present among the exhibitors over the weekend, it makes sense to make the presentations at the UK's biggest diving event.
Intrepid globe-trotting diver and TV personality Paul Rose was there on stage to do the honours.
If you were there you know the winners, if you weren't you may not, so here they are. And our sincere thanks to all you hard-worked voters for playing your part - you can take a break for a while before the 2018 voting takes place!

The race is run - the Awards are won!

Appeared in DIVER April 2017
The forms containing your nominations have been counted and the results of the 19th DIVER Awards, the one and only set of prestigious rewards for the diving trade in the UK and beyond, are in.
A warm thank-you to all of you in the diving community who took the time to complete the forms, whether on paper or online, and helped us to recognise the people who have made our diving special over the previous 12 months.
We're talking about the people who design, build and supply our dive gear, arrange our dive-trips, provide our training, operate the liveaboards and open up their countries' best dive-sites to us.
The DIVER Awards has always been about providing an additional incentive for suppliers to maintain the high standards needed to keep us divers happy and safe. In return, if they win or get placed through your votes, that’s an invaluable commendation on which they’re entitled to trade.
In a break with tradition this year, the Awards will be presented not live but online, with a video available to view on Divernet.com and input from the winners. In a further change of tack, the next set of diver Awards - the 20th - will be announced at DIVE 2017 the Show of the Year run by DIVER Group at the NEC in October.
That means that we'll be asking you to vote again before too long, but don't worry, you'll have another 12 months after that to consider your choices for the 21st DIVER Awards! The change has come about because we want the event to tie in with the biggest UK Dive Show from now on.
